In 2019 I was in Tomar, Portugal. Part of a group performing in the Convento de Cristo. The highlight of the programme was was Thomas Tallis' Spem in Alium. 40 parts sung in the round, I can't recommend it enough. It was an incredibly musical affirming trip for me, and during it someone suggested, "wouldn't it be great to do a halloween concert?"

I leapt at the idea, and one word consumed me: FEAR. The power of that held fricative, to create a breathy rhythm, like a harsh snare drum, chugging along while witches cackled.

In the end the work was this, the whispers of a malevolent spirit toying with it's prey.

This was also the start of me composing seriously, so it holds a special place for me.
